Site Service

The data architecture for the LS POS system allows for offline connectivity. This means that the POS runs on a local database stored on the POS machine and is not affected by network or back-office-server downtime. This mode of operation is highly valuable in the retail environment where a POS is expected to be up and running all of the time.

The downside to running in offline mode is that it is more difficult to access central data such as gift cards, credit memos and so on. This information can change throughout the day and keeping it up-to-date on each and every POS is a daunting task.

The LS Site Service solves these kinds of problems by allowing the POS to access a central database in order to retrieve or update information. This gives the LS POS the resilience of a standalone mode as well as the data availability of an online POS.

The LS Site Service is a service that acts as an agent for the POS. The LS POS submits queries to the Site Service, which then accesses the remote database in order to read or update the necessary data. The POS itself never accesses the central database as all database access is done via the LS Site Service. Before any queries can be made from the POS you need to have access to the LS Site Service through the network.
